


{"id":673,"date":"2007-06-01T01:02:48","date_gmt":"2007-06-01T01:02:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/?p=673"},"modified":"2021-04-15T15:34:28","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T20:34:28","slug":"the-sunkiss-catherm-a-new-natural-gas-technology-for-the-quebec-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/?p=673&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"The SUNKISS CATHERM: a new natural gas technology for the Qu\u00e9bec market!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\">Gaz de France, in partnership with SUNKISS, has developed a new catalytic infrared gas burner technology called CATHERM.<\/p>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">Gaz M&eacute;tro and Gaz de France mandated Natural Gas Technologies Centre (NGTC) to validate this technology&rsquo;s performance and confirm the relevance of importing it to Qu&eacute;bec with the aim of capturing new gas markets. Ayotte Technogaz, North American distributor of this technology, made a major contribution to this project&rsquo;s success.<\/p>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">CATHERMs are catalytic combustion panels, which allow a reaction at a lower temperature than conventional combustion. Combustion takes place on a catalyst integrated into a ceramic honey&shy;comb support. This gives off radiation more appropriate to the absorption spectrum of the paint covering various products. The new CATHERM has a catalyst formulation allowing greater radiant intensity than previous generations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">There are two versions of CATHERM catalytic burners, airtight or direct. The airtight burner is covered with a window which prevents combustion gases from migrating into the environment where the components are dried.<\/p>\n<p class=\"titre-sous\">Tests that produce results<\/p>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">Measurements were performed at Sablex in Trois-Rivi&egrave;res. This company specializes in coating to order of metal products of all kinds of shapes, dimensions and materials, with various types of finishes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_661\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 250px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/21-2-1-photo1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-661\" title=\"21-2-1-photo1\" src=\"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/21-2-1-photo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Car gas tank flap<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">The direct version of the CATHERMs was tested at Sablex. A powdered paint coating was applied to an automobile gas tank flap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">The results showed a 12-minute curing time for a gas tank flap. This is a considerable reduction compared to open air drying, which can take 14 hours, and convective (pulsed air) drying, which can take about one hour. The burner&rsquo;s radiant output is 57%, very close to the theoretical limit (see Figure 1).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_674\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignnone\" style=\"width: 539px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/21-2-1-graph1-en.gif\" data-rel=\"lightbox\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-674\" title=\"21-2-1-graph1-en\" src=\"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/21-2-1-graph1-en.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"422\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Figure 1. CATHERM performance compared to other types of radiant panels<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"texte-courant\">For the industry, this reduced drying time means increased production and reduced energy consumption.
