As the primary energy consumers, the ovens at the end of the line offer the greatest potential for savings. Variable-frequency drives (VFD) on exhaust fans<\/h3>\n<p>VFDs adjust fan motor speed to precisely regulate airflow based on the paint line&rsquo;s actual needs. During the initial purge**, fans run at full capacity; then VFDs reduce their speed to limit the exhaust of hot air. As a result, the volume of new, cold air to be heated is smaller, reducing the thermal load on the burners. With this technology, we estimate <strong style=\"font-weight: 800;\">savings of 31,000 m<sup>3<\/sup> of natural gas per year.*<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>2. Infrared thermoreactors for rapid curing<\/h3>\n<p>The infrared thermoreactors chosen by the customer use natural gas radiant panels. The panels&rsquo; wavelength is optimized such that only the powder absorbs the energy, thereby eliminating the need to heat the entire metal mass of the part. As a result, the temperature ramp-up time was reduced from ten (10) minutes to two (2), allowing for shorter ovens and lower heating power. This technology <strong style=\"font-weight: 800;\">saves an estimated 39,000 m<sup>3<\/sup> of natural gas per year,*<\/strong> while also improving paint quality and increasing production speed.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Air curtains at oven openings<\/h3>\n<p>Air curtains, a technology we discuss in detail <a href=\"https:\/\/informatech.energir.com\/?p=7745&amp;lang=en\">in this article<\/a>, create a thermal barrier at openings using high-speed airflow, which limits heat exchange between the oven interior and the outside environment. By reducing heat loss from infiltration, these curtains <strong>save an estimated 24,000&nbsp;m<sup>3<\/sup> of natural gas per year.<\/strong><strong>*<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-9910-3\" class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\"><div id=\"pgc-9910-3-0\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\"><div id=\"panel-9910-3-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"4\"><div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3>Demonstrated results<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By leveraging these technologies, the customer was able to achieve its financial and environmental goals <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">while shortening its payback period.&nbsp; &nbsp;Thanks to financial support from the Government of Qu&eacute;bec&rsquo;s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.quebec.ca\/agriculture-environnement-et-ressources-naturelles\/energie\/reussir-ses-projets-transition-energetique\/aide-financiere\/programme-ecoperformance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&Eacute;coPerformance<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> program and a grant from the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/energir.com\/en\/business\/energy-efficiency\/energy-efficiency-programs\/studies-and-implementation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Studies and Implementation Component<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of &Eacute;nergir&rsquo;s energy efficiency program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table id=\"tableau-bandes\" style=\"width: 100%; bandes bleu \/ blanc *\/<br \/>\n#tableau-bandes tr:nth-child(odd) td {<br \/>\n  background-color: #D0E6F5 !important;<br \/>\n}\n<p>#tableau-bandes tr:nth-child(even) td {<br \/>\n  background-color: #ffffff !important;<br \/>\n}\n\n<\/style>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-9910-4\" class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\"><div id=\"pgc-9910-4-0\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\"><div id=\"panel-9910-4-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"5\"><div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3>Heat recovery: Taking optimization to the next level<\/h3>\n<p>Where applicable, it is possible to further optimize a paint line like the customer&rsquo;s (or similar facilities) by recovering heat from curing ovens using technologies such as:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-9910-5\" class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\"><div id=\"pgc-9910-5-0\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\"><div id=\"panel-9910-5-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"6\"><div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h4>An air-to-air heat exchanger on exhaust gases:<\/h4>\n<p>This heat exchanger is installed on the exhaust duct to use combustion products to preheat fresh air.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>Advantage: Reduces burner load<\/li>\n<li>Limitation: Gases contain particulates and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that require resistant materials and frequent maintenance<\/li>\n<li>Energy efficiency: 40&ndash;65%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-9910-5-1\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\"><div id=\"panel-9910-5-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"7\"><div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h4>A run-around coil:<\/h4>\n<p>This system uses a heat transfer fluid to exchange heat between exhaust air and fresh air through separate coils.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>Advantage: Prevents direct contamination due to separate flows<\/li>\n<li>Limitation: Efficiency is lower than that of a direct heat exchanger<\/li>\n<li>Energy efficiency: 45&ndash;50%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-9910-5-2\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\"><div id=\"panel-9910-5-2-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"8\"><div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h4>Heat recovery for preheated parts or treatment baths:<\/h4>\n<p>This system captures heat from exhaust gases to preheat parts before painting or to heat treatment baths.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>Advantage: Directly recovers heat<\/li>\n<li>Limitation: Requires process-specific integration<\/li>\n<li>Energy efficiency: 20&ndash;50%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-9910-6\" class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\"><div id=\"pgc-9910-6-0\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\"><div id=\"panel-9910-6-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"9\"><div class=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\">\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<h3>&Eacute;nergir: By your side to optimize your decarbonization projects [and save you money]<\/h3>\n<p>For this project, &Eacute;nergir leveraged the expertise of its representative and the <a href=\"https:\/\/energir.com\/en\/business\/customer-centre\/contact-us\/groupe-datech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DATECH team <\/a>to advise the customer on the most relevant energy efficiency solutions to meet its goals and to help maximize the grant that the customer was eligible for based on its natural gas reduction.
